Wimp #SoCS

This post is part of Linda G Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday #SoCS.

I’ve never published a post without editing it first. The perfectionist in me cringes at the thought. But I know sometimes I should just relax and have more fun with the blog, because that’s the reason I started this particular one in the first place. Soooo……I decided that taking part in Linda G Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday would be excellent practice for me.

The prompt this week is one word; Nerve

Wimp

If I had the nerve, I would go scuba diving. To swim in the ocean with sea life must be one of the most amazing experiences in the world.

If I had the nerve, I would put on a parachute and jump from a plane. Flying without wings!

If I had the nerve, I would train to be an astronaut and visit the moon.

The thoughts of doing any of these things make me quiver. I’m such a wimp!

Cupid

Charli’s 99 word flash fiction prompt this week is to include stilettos, who will wear them and why. I contemplated telling the story about the night I nearly broke my neck in a pair, but it’s too embarrassing. Some other time maybe! Here’s a wee love story instead.

Cupid

My sister Ann insisted a night out would stop me lamenting over my recent break-up with my boyfriend Joe.

‘Wear your red suede stilettos.’

‘Are they not a bit fancy?’

‘Not for where we’re going,’ she smiled.

I followed Ann to our table in the restaurant—that was already occupied by someone else.

‘What are you doing here?’ I blurted.

‘Meeting my sister,’ he replied.

‘Eh…no you’re not,’ said Ann. She scarpered. I sat opposite him.

‘You’re wearing my favourite shirt.’

‘And you’re wearing those shoes.’ He grinned and I blushed.

‘I’m sorry Joe.’

‘So am I.’

My Riches

Charli’s 99 word flash fiction prompt this week is; write a story about something a character never dreamed would happen.

Mine is for my besties, my kiddies and the man himself, Stephano!

Rescue 116 in 99words

When I read Charli’s 99 word prompt this week, I immediately remembered the tragic events at Blackrock Island in the very early hours of March 14th 2017.

Life savers on any body of water. It can be a formal Coast Guard, historical or contemporary. It could be an individual who unexpectedly takes on the role.

Rescue 116

Irish Coast Guard helicopter

Called into the night

Black ocean swells

Rocky terrain in sight

Find Blacksod Bay

Refuel at the lighthouse

Where the keeper awaits

No mayday distress

Black box tells

Of that early misty morn

Winchman yelled ‘come right’

Duffy said ‘we’re gone’

Didn’t make it to the lighthouse

Hit Blackrock instead

Two were lost at sea

Two were found…now dead

Ciarán Smith

Father of three

Paul Ormsby

Lived for family

Captain Dara Fitzpatrick

Mother sister friend

Captain Mark Duffy

All heroes till the end

The nation mourned

We’ll never forget

Rescue 116

Saviours we never met
