You’re writing your autobiography. What’s your opening sentence?
When I learned how to say ‘no’ to people, I realised that trying to please everyone was not the road to happiness.
The End

Every time I am asked this question, I give the same answer; social media.
It’s not as if I spend an odious (now there’s a word I haven’t used in years) amount of time scrolling on social media, but I still find it draining and distracting. I’d rather spend my precious time writing than spend it on SM.
However, as a writer who has stories to promote, I need to be active on social media. I just wish I could get the balance right. At the moment, I’m hardly on it at all – the short break I took from it has turned into a very long break!
Maybe that’s what I need a break from… my social media break!
All advice welcome!
Our Christmas eats are the typical traditional foods you’d see in most Irish homes around Christmas. Roast turkey and baked ham with sage and onion stuffing. Potatoes (naturally), carrots and brussel sprouts. A few peas thrown in, maybe!
I’ve experimented down through the years with the sprouts but I’ve gone back to the old way of steaming them because I’ve learned that the people who don’t like Brussels sprouts won’t eat them no matter how they’re cooked.
I’ve also stopped with all the fancy ‘extras’ — no one wants it. They just want the traditional Christmas spread! So, why complicate things for myself?
For the last few years, I’ve cooked the ham in Coca-Cola. The gravy from the ham-boiled coke is the best ever! My son did it this way last Christmas but unfortunately, he overdone the cloves and the result was strong clove-flavoured gravy. God love him!
Dessert is plum pudding. I make my own every year. I don’t follow the same recipe every time but always similar — not too rich.

Some in our house like custard and fresh cream poured over their plum pudding. I take mine with Bailey’s fresh cream.
You can’t finish Christmas Day without the evening-time turkey and ham sandwiches. For some people, this is even better than the dinner! They’re the best sandwiches you’ll ever eat!
What’s your favourite Christmas food?
Thank you for reading!

MORE ABOUT ME, MY BOOKS AND MY CHARACTERS IN THIS YOUTUBE VIDEO!
I’m reading three at the moment. A long novel, a collection of short stories and a non-fiction book.
Precipice by Robert Harris is a historical spy story (1914). I got off to a slow start with this because I wouldn’t usually choose a war/political story — this was a book club pick. However, if I’d seen this advertised on Netflix I’d add it to my to-watch list. I can’t say I’m loving it (just yet) but I will finish it.
