Good Morning

What’s your favorite time of day?

Morning is my favourite time of day, and the older I get, the more I like it.

It’s when I get to drink coffee and write without distractions.

I’m more productive in the mornings so it’s when I get most of my writing done. This morning I plan to work on a short story that I’m writing for my newsletter subscribers.

I don’t usually spend my Sundays writing, but the weather is quite miserable today (like every other day in Ireland) and I have no plans to go anywhere.

I’m not sure if I’ll get the story finished today because I’ve been struggling with it. Sometimes I’m inclined to over complicate things in short stories, which is a problem, because the edits take longer. This one is particularly troublesome. I’ll get there. I usually do in the end!

Stamps in Camden Market

Daily writing prompt
Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.

On a very recent trip to London I visited Camden Market for the first time in my life. I wasn’t disappointed. A fabulous day out and the weather was exceptionally good too.

My 13-year-old daughter and I love rummaging in thrift shops and when we came across one in the market we were delighted with ourselves. The first thing I came across was a box of old postcards and used stamps. To say I got excited was an understatement. I pulled out the box, laid down my iced coffee, and got stuck in.

So it’s only a box of old stamps, I hear you say! More than that to me. I’m reigniting a passion for what was my childhood hobby and for the time I spent rooting around in that box, I was back there again!

Whatever’s in my Handbag

Daily writing prompt
What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time?

Well, that depends on where I’m going and what I’ll be doing.

If ‘all the time’ means even at home, my answer is my varifocals. Unfortunately, I left them in Italy two weeks ago and I’m lost without them. Lucky I still have my reading glasses.

When I take the dog for a walk, the first thing I check my pocket for is doggie poop bags. And I do take them home after I use them. Too often I see full poop bags lying on the ground. Why bother bagging it just to dump it? I don’t understand people sometimes!

Some Things are Best Left Well Alone

What are you curious about?

I’m curious about so many things. The truth about death and what comes afterwards. I will remain curious about that subject because that truth will only come when my time to die comes. Fair enough!

Science intrigues me, but a lot of it overwhelms me, so I don’t want to know too much. It’s scary!

Take neuroscience, for instance. It is far too complex. The brain amazes me. I know that it’s magnificent, yet my knowledge on the workings of the brain is very basic.

I’m curious about what my dog is thinking, and I wish she could talk. That won’t happen!

I could spend hours writing about things that I’m curious about.

Curiosity is a good thing, but remember… curiosity killed the cat, so some things are best left well alone!
