No More Excuses!

I read a blog post today from Ritu Kaur BP, and it has made me feel under less pressure about my blog posts. If you’re a blogger you must read it. Go HERE!

Actually, I’m so relaxed about blogging this morning that I’m whipping this post up in super quick time! Thank you Ritu!

I had such high hopes for Tasheenga’s blog! All my daily ramblings were supposed to go down here. (I sometimes forget I have other things going on in my life, by the way.)

Well, I have quite a good excuse for this month. We just moved house and oh boy, what a busy time we’ve had.

My writing space in our old house was the kitchen table. Books and sheets of paper everywhere. And sometimes the printer stuck in the middle of it! A big pain at mealtimes because I had to tidy most of it away. Yes, tidying is a pain!

It got harder when we were selling the house because, when viewers were calling, I had to not only tidy it all away but HIDE it all away. If I needed to print anything it was a nuisance taking the printer out of the box and then having to pack it away again. Moan moan moan!

My other problem was, we had no WiFi. Because we were moving, we didn’t want to go to the bother of installing a line and we weren’t prepared to sign up for mobile internet. So, I depended on my phone data. Sometimes I dragged myself down to the library for WiFi but that got my nerves too!

I’m shocking easy-going y’know!

After about 12 months we finally sold the house and closed the deal on our new home. So exciting! However, our new house wasn’t quite ready to move into so we spent four weeks living in a mobile home in the local caravan and camping park.

This was brilliant because for the whole month of May we had warmth and sunshine. Minimal housework, eating outside, meeting all our tourist neighbours and exactly one minute drive from the school! (I still didn’t manage to be on time most mornings.)

We loved living in the mobile home…….to begin with! It felt like being on holiday. When Stephano and I bumped into each other in the tiny hall we were all smiley and touchy, “Oh, hello. Excuse me please.” Lots of giggles and eyeballing!

Up close and personal

Two weeks later…….

“Out of my way.”

“Ouch! Now I just walloped my arm on the door because you were in my way.”

“I was here first.”

“I keep telling you not to open the bedroom door while the toilet door is open.”

“Sorreeee.”

So, by the time we were leaving our temporary little home, I was black and blue from walking into doors, banging my head, bending down and whacking my bum on God knows what, and I stood on my child so many times I think she has flat feet now!

Fireside story

Moving-in-day was so exciting! For about three days we were unpacking and organising. We had some really good furniture that we didn’t want to get rid of so we painted it to make it look new. And because we were fed up of pine! That took quite a while and we’re not finished yet!

No More Pine

The best part is that I have my own writing room! Deadly! No more moving stuff out of everybody’s way. No more hiding scraps of paper with mad stuff written on them.

Pray for me

Nobody is allowed into my room so I can happily leave all my notes lying around. Stephano is allowed because this is where I will be giving him nice massage or reflexology treatments now and then.

And he knows all about my google history and my weird notes. He doesn’t ask questions!

He’s so delighted I have this room for three reasons.

  1. He doesn’t have to look at/fall across all my books and papers anymore.
  2. He won’t be able to hear me giving out to myself and to the laptop when it’s being stupid.
  3. The massage plinth will be a permanent fixture – no more putting it up and taking it down again. Takes the whole good out of the treatment!

He’s a bit like, “Now get in there and finish that fecking book!”

I’m feeling the palpitations coming on now. I have no more excuses! No more convincing reasons to procrastinate. He’ll probably lock me in from the outside and feed me through the keyhole!!

“5000 words…..then you can come out!”

Now that’s the quickest I’ve ever written a blog post! Thanks Ritu!

And just look at my Bitmojis!

  1. Having your own space is amazing. I was just thinking about that today. I have a little writer nook, but I’m wishing I had a door and some walls! Ah well, a writers life is ever a work in progress, no?
