Judge a Book by its Cover 18 – #TuesdayBookBlog

Is it still okay to wish you all a Happy New Year? It’s almost February and this is my first blog post of the year. This happens to me every year and the reason why is because I usually start the year with huge intentions and working on my novel always takes priority. Then I get so engrossed in it, that everything else falls way down the list.

I don’t beat myself up about it because occasional breaks from blogging and social media are good for me.

My first post for 2025 is a ‘Judge a Book by its Cover’ post. If you’re new to my blog, you can read the inspiration behind this regular digest HERE.

I went to my collection of book covers this morning and the first one to catch my eye was this little beauty.

You, Your Girlfriend and Me by Scott Bissett

At a glance, this cover gives off positive and loving vibes. It’s a fun cover, it’s clean and simple, but very eye-catching.

From this cover I would expect romance with some comedy. The title speaks ‘love triangle’.

A quick search on Amazon should tell me all I need to know about You, Your Girlfriend and Me. Let’s hope the blurb tells us much the same as the book cover.

The Blurb

Two’s company and three’s a crowd… or is it?

Freshly dumped and feeling lost, Glaswegian magazine journalist Kate McArdle is sure she’s sworn off love for good, until she finds an unlikely support system in her new best friend’s, kind-hearted barista Matt, and his picture-perfect girlfriend Paige.

What begins as friendship turns to guilty desire as boundaries are blurred and relationships are put to the ultimate test, forcing each of them to acknowledge feelings they’d attempted to suppress and secrets they’d all have preferred remain hidden.

“Beautiful, perfect and heart-wrenching,” You, Your Girlfriend & Me navigates the treacherous waters of fluid sexuality and the constantly shifting landscapes of romantic and platonic twenty-something relationships, while searching for a fresh answer to an age-old question…

What’s the meaning of love?

I think this cover tells us exactly what to expect from between the pages. The reviews are positive too.

Amanda Bissett ⭐⭐⭐⭐

So many plot twists leading to the perfect ending!

Debut novel – “You, Your Girlfriend & Me” is laugh out loud funny, happy cry inducing and will leave you wondering whats about to happen next! I literally couldn’t put it down after I started it. I fell in love with the characters immediately. 🥰
Cannot wait to see what Scott does next!

Tessy ⭐⭐⭐

Unique story telling

The author’s engaging style of writing draws you in straight away, making this book easy to read, with a twist at the tale which I didn’t see coming.

It was fun to look up some of the landmarks/featured places as I read, for example the yellow car on the side of the building, Arthur’s seat, among other places mentioned through out the story.

All in all; an enjoyable story which I’d recommend to anyone who likes punchy first person narrative.

Fiona on Goodreads ⭐⭐⭐

Read in one sitting as I was totally engrossed in the character’s lives, relationships and friendships and getting to see them develop. I enjoyed reading the chapters on each of the main characters perspectives to understand each occurrence from their views. My favourite character was Matt and also Jason who made me giggle! It was also pleasing to see truly supportive friendships rather than those “told you so”conversations some stories include when things go wrong. The story will make you laugh, cry and gasp and it keeps you wondering what may happen at the end – I think it was the perfect ending!

✅ Likeable characters
✅ Love-triangle romance
✅ Fun, sensitive and tugs on the heart strings
✅ Smooth plot development

So there you have it! You, Your Girlfriend, and Me sounds like a fun and uplifting read and it might be just the tonic you need during this long dreary month.

Thank you for reading. See you soon!
