Cook Like a Boss. Day 1.

Day one of cookery camp and Little Miss Nine is raring to go! Motivation levels on a scale of 1 to 10? Definitely 10. So far so good. For the next five days Little Miss Nine will be cooking under the instructions of Chef Jeffers from Forestside Cookery School – by video link.

Stephano has a week off work, so he’ll be here to join in the fun (and the supervising).

To get the fun going he ‘reluctantly’ put on an apron and a chef’s hat. Little Miss Nine made it clear that this was her gig and not his. Off with that hat Stephano!

Cook Like A Boss #SoCS

Who likes cooking? Me! Actually, who likes cooking with their children? Not sure…mmm!

Last week I signed Little Miss Nine up for a five day virtual cookery camp, starting next Monday. Cook Like A Boss. Little Miss Nine can make toast and get herself a bowl of cereal – that’s it! We have made pizzas and buns together and that turned out okay…we managed! This will be different though because I intend to let her do most of the work on her own. Well, that’s the plan!

So, I’ve a feeling my patience will be tested during this. I don’t really like sharing my kitchen with others – except my husband because we kinda work the same way. Also, Little Miss Nine would rather be reading, drawing or writing, so I’m not sure how I’ll keep her motivated for five days. I’ll try my best though

Every morning we will receive an email that will link to an instruction video, which we can cook along to at our own pace. Judging by the list of ingredients, which we have already been sent, it looks like the recipes will be delicious. Of course that depends on the chef, doesn’t it?

I’ll let you know how we get on. With photos!

Guggy Egg #SoCS

This post is part of Linda G Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday #SoCS. This week’s prompt is butter!

There was a discussion on the radio yesterday about guggy egg. What on earth is that?….I hear some of you ask.

It’s a boiled egg mashed up in a cup with a generous sprinkling of salt and a good big dollop of butter. Not the pretend stuff now…it has to be the real butter!

I never called it guggy egg though. It was just ‘egg in a cup’ in our house.

The first time I heard it being called guggy egg was from my friend Mohotma. I told her, ‘Okayyyyy Mohot, whatever you think’. I assumed it was a word she made up for her children. Y’know…thinking it would make the egg more appetising for them.

It’s surprising the number of parents who are of the belief that giving foods new (weird) names will make their children like them better. (Well, it does work sometimes)

So, I have to say I was surprised when I heard on the radio that hundreds of people eat guggy egg!

Do Not Disturb….Unless You Have Food!

I’m loving my new work space. I’ve waited so long for this room! I just want to be in it all time now.

My most productive time is during school hours for obvious reasons.

Little Miss Six does have siblings, but they’re all grown up and don’t live with us, so she depends on me & her daddy (when he’s not working) for communication and entertainment.

Any work I get done while she’s here is minimal. I don’t mind though because their childhood years are precious!

Yesterday morning I had stuff to do in town. Shop for a birthday present, post it away, order the internet and go for a coffee. Yes, the coffee shop was necessary because I needed to rest.

I tore my gastrocnemius over three months ago and I’m still in agony. Walking at the moment is torture. I finally made an appointment with a physiotherapist. Seeing him later!

It was afternoon by the time I got into my little haven. (I’m trying to think of an appropriate name to call my room. Any ideas?) Afternoon can be tricky. People demand my time.

Little Miss Six was home from school and Stephano was up from bed. (No, he doesn’t lie in bed half the day, he works a night shift sometimes!)
