Meet Shirley & Terence – My New Neighbours

A couple of months ago, I told you about My Perfect New Neighbour (to be).

So, who has been blessed with the privilege of living next door to moi? It’s the woman who sat in her car eating a family-size chocolate bar. Her name is Shirley and her husband is Terence. Aren’t they the lucky ones! Are we lucky to be living next door to them though? That is the question!

My dream neighbour specification; Someone friendly, quiet, my age, has one child aged six, wants to join a writing group, likes to go chéile dancing, likes to go for walks (on my terms), enjoys the occasional glass of wine and Guinness, listens to André Rieu, understands good ole Irish banter & sarcasm, and knows how to boil the kettle properly.

Did I get my dream neighbour? No, of course not.

Come Dine With Me Spanish Style!

So the big night arrived. The final dinner in the Come Dine With Me 2017 Competition, hosted by yours truly. All my plotting and planning had come together quite nicely.

I decided on the Spanish theme a couple of months ago when I took Little Miss Six Year Old to a birthday party. They had a piñata and boy were they having a fabulous time. Some of the kids scared me a bit – they were ruthless!

Poor Piñata

I had fleeting images of Mohotma Coatalay thrashing the bejaysus out of one of these things. That’s when the idea came to me. Weh hey!!! A Spanish Dinner Party! With a piñata!

Murder, Lies and Too Much Gin. Let’s Have Dinner!

After Saphirra’s ‘Come Dine With Me’ a few weeks ago, I must say that my confidence at hosting amazing dinner parties has somewhat waned. Read about that HERE.

Saphirra excels at entertaining and leaves nothing to chance – especially when there’s a prize up for grabs. She loves going out too and is always the last person to leave a party, which is usually the following morning! That’s okay though, because she always does the cleaning up before she leaves. (This is possibly the reason why she gets invited to so many parties!)

Mohotma Coatalay never fully got over not winning our last dining competition two years ago. Whenever it gets mentioned, she utters through her teeth how Saphirra deserved it. But there’s no mistaking the bitterness in her voice.

She may not have won, but she really did host an excellent dinner party and her efforts were outstanding. Her theme was Halloween – even though it was still September – and she pulled out all the stops. Here’s where she excelled on the night:

  • She sent out custom made Halloween invitations which displayed the menu for the night.
  • We began the evening outdoors on the veranda where we enjoyed drinks and canapes. The garden is magnificent and Mohotma had it sprinkled with tealights nestled in little glass jars.
  • Her food was outstanding. Made with fresh and mostly homegrown ingredients. Eyeballs and fingers floated gruesomely in the soup – because of the Halloween theme. Her blancmange was a pink and wobbly brain!
  • Entertainment for the evening was a fun Halloween quiz. I won that!! 😊 Ghoulish hits such as Bat Outta Hell, Monster Mash and Thriller had us dancing the night away! Oh… t’was a fantastic dinner party indeed! My party night was very boring in comparison.

It was unfortunate that she lost points on very simple things like this:

Do Not Disturb….Unless You Have Food!

I’m loving my new work space. I’ve waited so long for this room! I just want to be in it all time now.

My most productive time is during school hours for obvious reasons.

Little Miss Six does have siblings, but they’re all grown up and don’t live with us, so she depends on me & her daddy (when he’s not working) for communication and entertainment.

Any work I get done while she’s here is minimal. I don’t mind though because their childhood years are precious!

Yesterday morning I had stuff to do in town. Shop for a birthday present, post it away, order the internet and go for a coffee. Yes, the coffee shop was necessary because I needed to rest.

I tore my gastrocnemius over three months ago and I’m still in agony. Walking at the moment is torture. I finally made an appointment with a physiotherapist. Seeing him later!

It was afternoon by the time I got into my little haven. (I’m trying to think of an appropriate name to call my room. Any ideas?) Afternoon can be tricky. People demand my time.

Little Miss Six was home from school and Stephano was up from bed. (No, he doesn’t lie in bed half the day, he works a night shift sometimes!)
